Student Conduct Holds

Information about types of Student Conduct holds
The Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Education may place administrative holds on a student’s account in certain situations. These holds are primarily used to ensure students engage with the conduct process—especially in cases involving serious conduct issues or incomplete assigned outcomes (sanctions).
Holds may also be used to prevent students who have been suspended or dismissed from UC Santa Cruz from registering for courses.
Refer to the Student Policies and regulations Handbook:
- Section 104.33 – Participation in the Student Conduct Process
- Sections 104.81 and 105.12 – Holds related to conduct sanctions and suspensions

Common reasons for student conduct holds
The most common reason for a conduct-related hold is failure to complete assigned Student Conduct outcomes by their deadline. These holds are not permanent, but it may take 1–2 business days to remove them after requirements are fulfilled.
Plan ahead: If your hold affects registration or deadlines, submit all required materials several days in advance.
Sanction deadline missed email
- You will be notified of the assigned sanction, the deadline, and that a hold will be placed if it is not completed.
- Complete and submit the assignment before the deadline to the Student Conduct Administrator assigned to your case.
- If you need more time due to extenuating circumstances, contact the Conduct Administrator as soon as possible.
- If you’re unsure who to contact, email conduct@ucsc.edu

- The fastest way to clear the hold is to complete and submit the outstanding requirement.
- In rare cases, the hold may be temporarily lifted for 24 hours, but this is usually only offered once and at the discretion of the Conduct Administrator.
