Learn About Conflict Education
Helping students grow through conflict
The Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Education (OSCCE) offers resources and programs to help students build skills and confidence to navigate conflict in healthy, productive ways.
Restorative dialogues
A restorative dialogue is a voluntary, facilitated conversation between individuals who have experienced harm, caused harm, or been affected by a conflict or incident. Rooted in restorative practices, the process offers a safe and structured space to:
- Share perspectives
- Express emotions and needs
- Take responsibility
- Work toward understanding and healing
The goal is to collaboratively determine how to move forward—repairing harm, rebuilding trust, and promoting accountability and empathy.
At UC Santa Cruz, restorative dialogues are especially helpful in addressing interpersonal conflicts, bias-related incidents, or harm to a community. The Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Education offers this resource to students involved in the conduct process or referred by a campus community member.
Conflict coaching
Conflict coaching is a supportive process that seeks to help students build the skills and confidence to effectively navigate conflict. With guided reflection, students explore their experiences, identify challenges, and develop strategies to grow as effective communicators.
Educational workshops
OSCCE’s education workshops help students build skills to navigate the varying dynamics of human interactions with confidence, empathy, and clarity. Through engaging activities and real-life scenarios, participants explore conflict, practice effective communication, and learn strategies for managing difficult conversations. These workshops promote personal growth and contribute to a more respectful and inclusive campus community. This interactive two-hour workshop is often used as an educational sanction and promotes learning, self-reflection, and personal growth.
